Mold Disinfected and Crawl Space Air Sealed in Brighton, MI
Challenge
The homeowner called in because he had racoons under his 4 seasons room that tore all the insulation foam board and fiberglass batt insulation that he had installed under the subfloor down and wanted new insulation installed because he was having wire fence installed around the perimeter to prevent this from happening again. The floors in the 4 seasons room were cold and under the 4 seasons room it smelled strongly of urine. the problem was caused by racoons breaking down the lattice fencing that he had around the perimeter and they tore down all of the insulation under the subfloor. The homeowner chose to have the problem fixed because he wanted to get the insulation reinstalled and the area disinfected before the new enclosure was built to prevent pests from getting back under the 4 seasons room before winter. The homeowners biggest concern with the problem is that his floors in the 4 seasons room have now become drafty and cold and they couldn't spend their time in the room without getting uncomfortable.
Solution
The homeowner chose our company because we were able to get to the project in a timely manner that worked with his schedule and before the surrounding wall was about to be installed. he liked the products that we were going to install and he could see how it was going to be more beneficial then what he had before the racoons tore down his insulation. our solution was to remove the remaining 1" thick foam board insulation and the fiberglass batt insulation and dispose of it. We would then disinfect the area with a disinfectant/ antimicrobial. After that we would install;; fresh clean R19 fiberglass batt insulation between floor joist of the subfloor and then install all new R20 foam board insulation with a radiant barrier on either side and then air seal all of the gaps with expanding foam. One of the challenges that we faced during the installment process was the height in some areas made it very difficult for removing the insulation and installing the new insulation. We used Owens Corning faced R19 fiberglass batt insulation. SilverGlo and ZypFoam. The homeowner now has a healthy and clean space under his 4 seasons room and has a properly insulated floor that will provide him a much more comfortable living space.
