Under Insulated dormers in Pinckney, MI
Challenge
Warmer upstairs in the summertime and colder in the winter. The main symptom was the fact that no matter what the homeowners changed the thermostat to he could never achieve a desired temperature. The problem in the attic space were non insulated knee walls and a poorly insulated devil's triangle. Our customer choose to have TCI fix the problem since we were able to show him why our solution was the best way to make his upstairs more comfortable. The homeowner's biggest concern with his upstairs was uncomfortable temperatures for his family complaining either it was to hot or cold.
Solution
Our customer chose our company because we were the only company to offer such a solution. Our solution was to install a super knee wall and to make the knee walls conditioned living spaces. The biggest challenge would have been installing the knee wall on the west side of the home due to dormers not allowing us to insulate the entire knee wall. We used Silver Glo foam board, expanding foam in the knee walls and air sealed and put three tite shell can light covers over the recessed lights. We blew in TruSoft Cellulose insulation to R49. The home owner immediately noticed a temperature difference once the job was completed and at first was a non believer that our products were going to make that big of a difference but they did.
