Knee Wall & Cellulose Insulation in Dearborn, MI
Challenge
Warmer on the second story and colder in the winter. The main symptom was the fact that no matter what the homeowner changed his thermostat to he could not get the upstairs to the desired temperatures. The problem was caused by non insulated knee walls and a poorly insulated devil's triangle. The homeowner choose to have the problem fixed to make the upstairs more comfortable and allow for a usable clean storage area. The biggest concern was the upstairs main bedroom had a window air conditioner which was running constantly and never shut off.
Solution
Our customer choose TCI because we were the only company to offer such a solution. Our solution was to install a super knee wall and to make the knee walls conditioned living spaces. The biggest challenge our production crew had faced was having the smallest access hole to the knee wall and having to cut each SilverGlo piece in half to get it into the knee wall area. The products we used were SilverGlo foam board sealed with a ZypFoam polyurethane foam sealant. We also air sealed all accessible penetrations, top plates with ZypFoam. Afterwards we blow in TruSoft cellulose insulation to a resistance of 49. The homeowner immediately noticed a temperature difference once the job was completed and at first was a non believer that our products were going to make that big of a difference but they did.
